Packing for a multi-city vacation: Travel Style

Hey guys,

If you are anything like me, than you are the ultimate procrastinator when it comes to traveling. I tend to travel a few times a year and my trips can range anywhere from an extended weekend to a 7-14 day trek. As much as I love to travel, my procrastination gives me so much anxiety the days leading up to any trip.  I am such the last-minute packer! I like to spend time packing mentally before I actually pull things out of my closet. When I finally pack, it’s either late the night before I leave or literally the morning of, depending on how late my flight is.  Then I over pack!

Back in the day I used to have a full bag full of shoes and way more outfits than I needed. This always resulted in cumbersome check in processes and fees or  sitting at the security gate transferring things from one bag to another in order to get my suitcase to fit the damn box that measures how big your luggage should be.  My packing style made an already stressful process even worse!

I’ve gotten so much better these days, as I’ve learned to streamline my packing style.  Now instead of a bag full of shoes and outfits packed for those just in case moments, I’ve learned how to mix and match with just a few key pieces and some neutral toned shoes and minimal accessories. This week I’m traveling to Atlanta for a week and  leave to spend another week on Martha’s Vineyard. For this multi-city trip, I had to not only find some great mix and match pieces, but also pack clothing that would be suitable for both environments. One being a metropolitan city and the other a beach town.

Staple pieces in my outfit rotation:

4 necklaces

3 shorts

3 pairs of shoes

2 sunglasses

1 clutch

1 coverup

2 hats

I like to use the rolling technique to pack my clothes, I find that it keeps them wrinkly free and is a great way to pack and still have space. I layer the bottom of my suitcase with my shoes and then stack like pieces in a pile and roll them. I was able to free half of my luggage space for my toiletries and make up back which sat right on top of the shoes. Easy peasy!

Chambray Dress + Ankle Boots

Hey guys,

I want to say Happy Monday, but I have a snarl on my face right now LMAO!! As I have to un-glue myself from my mattress every Monday morning to begrudgingly start the work week, I hope it goes by faster than last week did! The weekend was fairly nice, Friday I met up with a friend of mine I haven’t seen in a long while! She has married and had a child since last we hung out and is trying to get her ‘girl’ time back on track. It’s so important not to lose your own sense of identify when you take on the additional hats of ‘wife’ and ‘mom’. We all need our time to unwind and hangout with friends. It’s great to have supportive hubbies and other family members that can allow for a day off every now and again. Saturday, I spent some time with another married friend of mine, and finally on Sunday had brunch with my single gal pals. I really had the goal of getting out of the house more this year and I must say, I am keeping up with it 🙂

I’ve wanted a chambray dress for the longest time but I could never seem to find one that I liked. I just happened to be shopping for something specific at Express when I happened to spot this number on the way to the dressing room.  Chambray dresses are pretty versatile, so it wasn’t a bad find at all. I always love the layered look of rocking a moto jacket with a flannel shirt tied to the waist, so being that there was an extra chill in the air in Newport Beach, Cali on this day, I opted for this look. As the weather returns to normal around these parts, I’ll have to find other ways to wear this, probably with some stacked heels, wedges and even sneakers. Hope you guys have an amazing start to your week!

Plaid + Ankle Boots: A Day in Venice Beach

Hey friends,

Plaid + Ankle boots, the perfect chill look for a chilly day on Venice Beach. When we arrived, it was love at first sight! We imagined ourselves sitting on the patios sipping latte’s and such at the amazing beach homes lined for miles as far as the eye could see. One day for sure we’ll have to rent a house on the beach for a vacation stay. Another indication that Venice Beach is all about that “Don’t worry, be happy” life is the obvious aroma of weed in the air as you walk down the strip. Summers there must be filled with surfers, and beautiful care free people up to various forms of exercise up and down the strip. I’d for sure love to find out! So although I am not dressed for the beach, this life guard tower served as the perfect backdrop for some impromptu outfit pics.  I am obsessed with the gorgeous fascinator hats that our British friends wear, so when I found this pompom/veil combo at H&M I jumped on it. Even if I got to wear it just once, it was well worth it. I paired this look with a cozy flannel shirt and quilted moto jacket with matching ankle boots and it was a win. You guys have an awesome week. See you around blogland!

Final Thoughts on Europe

TGIF Guys,
So it’s been an exciting few weeks of school. I’ve been spreading myself really thin, staying late after school, working my second job and getting a healthy dose of kick-ass from my personal trainer at the gym. Last Saturday I didn’t wake up until noon! My body is clearly waving the white flag and begging me to sit still if only for a few hours. We almost had a hurricane come through but Ms. Erika decided to dissipate before she came to us here in Florida.

I have way too many pics from my European vacation. I’ve spread them out among my post here and on IG, but I still have tons more. The trip feels like it happened ages ago so I couldn’t caption and label every single pic, therefore I decided against doing it at all. I’ve been asked why I fell in love with London? This year alone I’ve had two friends visit London right before and after me and we all feel the same. The city has such a welcoming vibe and a hustle and bustle about it that instantly makes you feel both comfortable and at home. The people are great and so is the food.  I loved the diversity of the city and it just left me wanting to see and explore more. I hope to make it back one day, until then I have my memories! Hope you enjoy both cities through my lens!

#SeeSummerBetter with Warby Parker

Hey Friends!

Today I am excited to partner with Warby Parker an eyeglass company for their #SEESUMMERBETTER campaign.  Their sunglasses start at just $95 and include free shipping and returns. Your purchase would also be doing something good in the community; as every pair you buy provides a free pair to someone in need. Another great thing about this company is they have a Home Try-On program where you can test wear 5 frames and decide on the ones you want to keep and simply return the rest.  I am taking some shots from my vacation travels this summer and pairing them with some stunning shades from their collection.

Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Joplin shades

If you ever find yourself in Paris,  Avenue des Champs-Élysées is the fashionista’s dream location! Who doesn’t enjoy streets lined with all kinds of high-end shops like Tiffany, Gucci and Louis Vuitton to chic and affordable ones like H&M, Gap and Abercrombie & Fitch. It also houses one of the biggest Haagen-Daz restaurants I’ve ever seen in life! The end of the long strip ends at the Arc de Triumph a simply breathtaking view at night. Tourist life requires being chic and comfortable. Here I’m rocking a hot pink dress with a light plaid button down and  gladiator sandals. I love these Joplin shades from Warby Parker, they are a great neutral tone that makes for the perfect accessory to this look. Simple yet never understated!

Notre Dame De Paris in Kincaid Shades

Notre Dame Cathedral was another highlight of my Parisian trip this summer. As a child I dreamed of being an architect and my love for structures with intricate lines and over arching angles has remained the same until this day. This church is magnificent in all it’s glory inside and out! A big floppy hat just wasn’t enough for how bright and sunny it was the day we visited. These Kincaid aviators from Warby Parker are perfect for the occasion in a brushed navy blue tint and shape that differs from your average aviator sunglasses. They definitely caught my eye!

London’s Big Ben in June Moonstone Shades

Sightseeing in London is amazing! The people are friendly, the pubs are filled with great food and music, and an Oyster card gets you a ride on the bus or Underground transit to hang out among the locals who are as diverse as their beautiful city. London to me felt like home away from home. Something about the vibe of this place just immediately put me at ease and I could totally see myself staying forever if it weren’t for the long flight to get back to the states to see my family LOL. The temperature does drop significantly when the sun goes down so travel with a sweater or light jacket during if you are vacationing there during the summer months. Here I’m rocking my chambray head wrap with a denim on denim look and these June Moonstone cat eye shades from Warby Parker provide the added vintage vibe I’m looking for.

Buckingham Palace in Henning Shades

I can just imagine the crowds that surround this place on a daily basis just hoping for a glimpse of royalty. We Americans are so enamored with all things British aren’t we? I would have loved to make it on the inside of this beautiful place. The grounds surrounding it were just as lovely. You cannot make it to London without making your way over to Buckingham Palace and taking a walk through the Princess Diana Memorial Park. My black and white grid cami complete with linen black shorts and gladiator sandals pair well with the Henning shades from Warby Parker in Jet Black with a sleek matte frame.

London Chic

Hey there!

So I’m back at work today, summer vacation has officially come to an end (le sigh).  I have the pics from my vacation in Europe to keep me nostalgic at least for a few more days LOL. So today’s shots were taken across the street from Buckingham Palace. I love the red foliage and the weather that day was perfection, made for the perfect backdrop! I have recently added this chambray head wrap to my collection and I have to say I am completely obsessed with it. Mostly because it matches everything! It’s the only head wrap I packed for my trip and on days I didn’t really want to bother with my hair, it worked with whatever I had on. Here it’s paired with other denim/chambray pieces. The versatility of denim/chambray is amazing and even when you pair different washes together the outcome is always fantastic. I remember not so long ago when that was a faux pas LOL.

Everyting’s Irie in Jamaica!

Warning: This post is pic heavy 🙂

I love to travel! I try to take mini vacations here and there but what I really look forward to is my annual trips with some of my family members. This years vacation was to Montego Bay, Jamaica. We stayed at a lovely all-inclusive resort named RIU Montego Bay. The accommodations were great. There was enough going on at the resort on a daily basis that made it unnecessary to wander off the property. The food was mouth watering! From the stew beef to the jerk chicken, we ate! I stuffed my face all day long and came back home hoping to have gained some weight. Not one friggin’ pound folks! (My struggle LOL) Here are some pics from our stay:

IMG_0133

These are some views from around the property. We could also view Sandals Montego Bay across the water.  I took a pic because I loved the architecture.   As you can see with the ocean at our front door and a colossal sized pool equipped with a poolside bar, entertainment and music, there was no need to leave the resort let alone for clothing! I found myself bikini clad for most of my stay!

One of the few times we ventured off site was to visit the mausoleum of legendary Reggae Icon Bob Marley, located in  9 Mile, Jamaica- St. Ann’s Parish. This man is bigger than life even in death. He is still very much loved and revered in Jamaica as he is around the world. It was an honor to see the house he spent a part of his childhood in as well as have an opportunity to see the burial site of his and some of family members. You could definitely feel his aura and energy in the place. Our tour guide Captain “Crazy” was a character and a great singer himself!
